The Linux Training Center Keeps Adapting to Linux Distribution Changes PDF Print E-mail

The Linux distribution market has undergone significant changes. The Linux Training Center has updated its Linux course offerings to reflect the new reality among Enterprise Linux Distributors.

Somerset, New Jersey, April 25, 2005 - The Linux Training Center has updated its Linux course offerings to reflect the new reality among Enterprise Linux customers and software distributors.

The Linux distribution market has continued to evolve since we first reported on this topic. Market leader Red Hat Software announced that it will no longer ship and support it's popular Red Hat Linux software. Red Hat discontinued it's 'Retail/Community' distro in favor of an Enterprise distribution. The Red Hat Enterprise Server and Advanced Server products will provide Red Hat with revenue via software subscriptions. Red Hat now faces its first significant challenge in the Enterprise Distribution market by Novell through it's acquisition of SuSe Linux. Novell/SuSe's challenge to Red Hat is significant because in addition to a top tier Linux distro, Novell also has decades of experience as an enterprise NOS (network Operating System). Novell was the innovator of Directory Services and has since added, through acquisition and development, systems and network management software, software provisioning, Netware file and print services for Linux.

The Linux Training Center has re-focused its efforts on providing expert Enterprise Linux training for IT professionals by focusing on Red Hat Enterprise/Advanced Server, SuSe Linux Enterprise Server, and SuSe Linux Professional. We have determined based on market share and customer requirements that Enterprise distros provide organizations of all sizes with the service and support that they have become accustomed to when dealing with commercial ISVs (Independent Software Vendors). Enterprise products offer varying levels of support up to 24x7x365. The Enterprise distribution release cycle of 18 - 24 months is advantageous to both the enterprise user and the ISVs. Enterprise versions are usually purchased directly from Red Hat , Novell/SuSe or a Value Added Reseller.

While The Linux Training Center will provide training for both RHES and SLES, it has decided to focus it's training efforts on Red Hat. We will use Fedora Core, the Red Hat contributed community distribution. Fedora Core contains all of the features found in Red Hat Enterprise Server at no charge and with no support from Red Hat. Instead, Fedora Core is supported by the Fedora Project which consists of developers, users and system administrators worldwide. It is no surprise that a large number of the development cycles for Fedora Core are donated by Red Hat developers.

The Linux Training Center's new courses reflect the new reality among Enterprise Linux distributions and prepare IT professionals to support SuSe Linux/Novell, Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Fedora.
